This is a direct result of Leninââ¬â¢s extraordinary initiative abilities, including his character and timing, and his utilization of purposeful publicity. He was a splendid speaker so the Bolsheviks were all around drove. At the Central Committee meeting on the 23rd October 1917, Lenin constrained through a plan thing, when the main Bolsheviks, Zinoviev and Kamenev, differ on it. This was vital in light of the fact that Lenin was in a state of banishment in Switzerland and had fled to Finland all the more as of late as a result of catastrophes coming about because of the July Days. This shows how Lenin was clearly still the decided pioneer of the Bolsheviks, and despite an assembled resistance, he was as yet competent to constrain his perspectives upon the gathering. Besides, Zinoviev and Kamenevââ¬â¢s right understanding of Marx was insufficient to slow down Leninââ¬â¢s wish for an outfitted uprising. Lenin somewhat changed Marxist hypothesis by expressing that the middle class upset had sufficient opportunity to finish industrialization. This further settled how persuasive Lenin inside the Bolsheviks and nobody could rival him regardless of whether clearly his Marxist hypothesis wasn't right. The Bolshevikââ¬â¢s achievement would not have happened in the equipped uprising of the November 1917 upset without Leninââ¬â¢s authority aptitudes. Leninââ¬â¢s initiative aptitudes is connected to his famous mottos which picked up help to the Bolsheviks while making the Provisional Government disliked. Moreover, Lenin was resolved to change the political state in Russia by toppling the Provisional Government. Before Leninââ¬â¢s return in April 1917, the main Bolsheviks, for example, Kamenev and Stalin, really bolstered the Government. There were serious issues for the administration, tallying the focal issues. Individuals were experiencing the difficulties of World War I including: countless passings at the front, hyperinflation, transportation breakdowns, void retires in stores and absence of fuel to warm peopleââ¬â¢s homes. These issues were connected in a barbarous circle; the best way to end the financial and social emergency was to get out off war however thusly, that would mean the withdrawal of remote guide, which would make its very own monetary emergency. The focal issues disappointed the working class, officers and laborers. At the point when Lenin returned, he guaranteed his most well known trademarks, which were ââ¬ËPeace, Land and Breadââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËAll Power to the Sovietsââ¬â¢ which were intended to pick up help for the Bolsheviks and sabotage the Provisional Government. ââ¬ËPeace, Land and Breadââ¬â¢ was a well known message on the grounds that ââ¬Ëpeaceââ¬â¢ implied a moment end to clashes and alluded to Bolshevik restriction to war; ââ¬Ëbreadââ¬â¢ implied a guarantee of food in the towns and urban communities, and ââ¬Ëlandââ¬â¢ implied every last bit of it to be nationalized for the lower class. This was a famous message in a nation tired of war and confronted food deficiencies. This underscored the Provisional Governmentââ¬â¢s support for the disagreeable war and demonstrated their inability to support the land and food deficiencies. Leninââ¬â¢s arrangement ââ¬ËAll Power to the Sovietsââ¬â¢ caused the laborers and workers to accept that the Provisional Government was made up completely of landowners and white collar classes who might not pay special mind to them. The mottos, thusly, permitted Lenin to offer help to the Bolsheviks that they will have power while making the Provisional Government look feeble and dependant on the ââ¬Ëstrongââ¬â¢ Bolsheviks. This is connected to how the shortcoming of the Provisional Government helped the Bolshevikââ¬â¢s bolster rise. It was the Provisional Government, which lead to guide endeavors to vanquish it; the Bolsheviks were fortunate that the Provisional Government was powerless. General Kornilov, disappointed with the Provisional Government and the jumbled condition of the military, required its oust. He needed an arrival of capital punishment for surrender, the end of the Soviets and the arrangement of himself as new pioneer. Kerensky right off the bat made recommendations to Kornilov by requesting that he join an alliance. At the point when dismissed, he needed to request that the Petrograd Soviet assist him with protecting the capital. They concurred, however just once he had discharged the Bolshevik detainees. He was subsequently placed into an undesirable situation of offering weapons to a gathering of individuals who were needed to vanquish his legislature. At long last, Kornilov gave up. The outcomes were sad for the legislature. Strategically, it lost help on both Left and Right. The Right-Wing were stunned that Kerensky had furnished the socialists. The Left were stunned that Kerensky had attempted to bargain with Kornilov and went rather to the association of the Bolsheviks. Militarily, the military lost all trust in the administration and began to fall. The Provisional Government was currently incredibly disagreeable and helped make upset inescapable with progressively Bolshevik help. Moreover, The Kornilov Affair had followed the furnishing of the Military Revolutionary Committee (MRC). The MRC didn't give its weapons back to the Provisional Government once the emergency was finished, which implied that there was an equipped radical gathering at the center of the Petrograd who were logically attempted the sets of the Bolsheviks. What's more, the disappointment of Kornilov to get to Petrograd featured the force the MRC had over officers Clearly, after the Kornilov Affair, the Provisional Government could no longer believe the soldiers to ensure them if their rival were in the MRC. The Kornilov Affair subsequently made the unrest unavoidable. This is connected to Trotsky, who drove the MRC, and how his job was urgent to the accomplishment of the Bolsheviks in the upset. It was Trotsky who was the driving force behind the genuine arranging and achievement of the uprising since the time he joined the Bolsheviks in May. Trotsky began the Pravda, another specialists arranged paper, which got the Bolsheviks thoughts across and helped the gathering run its own publicity machine. Besides, on the night of 24th October 1917, orders were given for the Bolsheviks started to involve the railroad stations, the phone trade and the State Bank. The following day the Red Guards, a private Bolshevik armed force set up by Trotsky, encompassed the Winter Palace. The Military Revolutionary Committee (MRC) of the Petrograd Soviet was set up to protect Soviets from Germans after the June hostile breakdown. It was heavily influenced by Trotsky and the Red Guards involved essential zones of Petrograd and captured the majority of the Provisional Government, who were in the Winter Palace. A large number of the individuals from the Provisional Government were captured, however didn't offer any encounter. The MRC, be that as it may, won over the help f the Peter/Paul fortification, with its 100,000 rifles. This shows how Trotsky had likewise composed and executed the Bolsheviksââ¬â¢ takeover with extraordinary skill. Trotsky was a significant commitment as he was the coordinator and gave the Bolsheviks the military capacity to win against the Provisional Government, which wound up numbering more than 10,000. To finish up, Leninââ¬â ¢s authority was urgent to various regards. Nonetheless, different factors, for example, Trotskyââ¬â¢s job, including his incredible hierarchical aptitudes, and the shortcoming of the Provisional Government, which helped increment Bolshevik help, are ostensibly increasingly pivotal. Lenin was a splendid speaker and incredible inside the gathering. Notwithstanding an assembled restriction among Zinoviev and Kamenev, Lenin was as yet ready to drive his perspectives upon the gathering, which shows how nobody could rival him. His two popular mottos ââ¬ËAll Power to the Sovietsââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËPeace, Land and Breadââ¬â¢ permitted Lenin to offer help to the Bolsheviks that they will have power. Notwithstanding, Lenin was fortunate that the Bolsheviksââ¬â¢ adversary, the Provisional Government, was feeble. There was little help for the Provisional Government inside the Petrograd. The Provisional Government neglected to handle the most noticeably awful issues like the food deficiencies for instance. The Kornilov Affair likewise made political and military issues for the administration, which made unrest unavoidable. Besides, Trotsky assumed a much significant job as he gave the Bolsheviks the military force because of his authoritative and timing abilities. Lenin helped the Bolsheviks prevail in the November 1917, yet just somewhat. The most effective method to refer to How Accurate Is It to Say That Leninââ¬â¢s Leadership?, Essay models

Books About the Human Body that Arent Boring
Books About the Human Body that Arent Boring I am a science geek. I love anything medical or science-related, and especially love reading about anatomy and how things work. Ill read medical books, study guides, med school memoirs, science-y memoirs, essays about science, and more. The human body is especially interesting in this regard, since different writers bring different perspectives to writing about the body. Each book is unique in that way, even if basic bodily processes and functions are always described the same way. I find it to be a testament to the intricacies of the body that there are able to be so many books on the human body, all so different in their own ways. Here are some of my favorite books on the human body, including some new and forthcoming books. Shapeshifters: A Journey Through the Changing Human Body by Gavin Francis To be a living person means the body is constantly changing, even in minuscule ways. We grow, get injured, heal, age, become pregnant, give birth, get sick, get healthyâ"when you think about it, thatâs pretty amazing. Francis examines what happens to the body in a variety of situations, like in pregnancy, when you get a tattoo, or when you sleep, to name a few. While I would have liked each section to go more in depth (it seems a bit sparse), this was a thought-provoking read. Body of Work: Meditations on Mortality from the Human Anatomy Lab by Christine Montross Iâve always wanted to go to medical school, and this book was a fascinating story about that rite of passage all medical students experience: the cadaver lab. Montross names her cadaver Eve, and goes on to examine the ethical and emotional aspects of dissecting cadavers and how bodies tell stories, even after weâre gone. How we Die by Sherwin Nuland This one and his other book, How We Live, were some of the first books that sparked my interest in this genre. I read the former during my health psychology program, and I couldnât get enough of it. Iâve never seen the human body or its functions the same way again. Gross Anatomy: Dispatches from the Front (And Back) by Mara Altman (out 8/21) Iâm not gonna lie: I literally LOLâd while reading this fantastic book. Altman has chosen certain topics to explore, including head lice, breasts, and facial hair, and has done so with a thoroughness that is admirableâ"and she manages to be uproariously funny while talking about the most embarrassing things. I wanted this book to be at least three times longer than it was, because I just wanted Altman do explore all the things. Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy by Angela Garbes I want to give a copy of this to every OB/GYN, midwife, expecting family, parents of newborns, and anyone who wants to be pregnant one day or loves someone who is or will be pregnant. As a maternal-child health MPH and someone who went through pregnancy and childbirth, this is the realest book Iâve ever read about this experience. Garbes is inclusive and pulls no punches in this meticulously researched book that blends reportage and memoir. Heart: A History by Sandeep Jauhar (coming out 9/18) Iâm a big fan of Jauharâs, so I was excited to get an advance copy of this one. He combines memoir with history in this one, looking at the human heart, advancements in treatments, and notable patients and doctors. He also makes it personal by sharing about his own work in the field, as well as his family. What are your favorite books about the human body?

Fading Childhood - Original Writing - 1230 Words
Fading Childhood Once upon a time there was a town, where children played all over. During the day, children would be playing games in the driveway, yards, and cul-de-sac. Voices of children could be heard by the creek. At night they would chase fireflies and their tiny shadows covered the roads. They would play together until they heard the call from their parents for bed. Theyââ¬â¢d sleep happily from playing all day under the trees. This is not a made up story but memories of many peopleââ¬â¢s childhoods. But such memories are not passed on to current generations. Modern day childhood has dissolved to being unimaginative, quiet, and robotic. Children are brainwashed to screens, and have a test driven education. Modern society is ruining childhoods with technology, test driven education and limited interactions. With the constant innovation of technology, todayââ¬â¢s children are constantly captivated by the newest inventions. Society has surrounded its focus on technology. It is everywhere and involved with everything we do. How we get to places, how we communicate, and it even makes our food. In current day we are extremely dependent on technology as so our children will. Technology is presented early to children too. It is given as toys for birthdays and holidays. Opening Statement Doc Free Essays
Opening Statement Frank Cearnal Jr CRJ 100 November 11, 2012 John Taulane Opening Statement In todayââ¬â¢s court system itââ¬â¢s not what you know itââ¬â¢s what you can prove, this statement has assisted me with the choice of discussing the Opening Statement of a Trial. Open statements can be catastrophic in any trial process, I would like to think of opening statements as the seed that initiates doubt in the minds of the jury. Opening Statements are defined as the information presented to the jury by both the prosecution and the defense attorney; solely to advise the jury of what each side intends to prove and how they will provide that information. We will write a custom essay sample on Opening Statement Doc or any similar topic only for you Order Now Opening statements are evidence or verdict, this process allows the prosecution to state what they are going to prove and how their proof relates to the case. For example the prosecutions opening statement would be: my intentions here today is to prove that the stand accused did in fact commit the nature of these crimes with the thought of consequence, lack of neither concern nor consideration for others. Today intend to prove that the nature of the crimes were in fact committed by the suspect at hand and at the time of the crime they were in their right frame of mind and should be found guilty of all crimes committed. This is also an excellent time for the prosecution to indirectly character assassinate without it directly being pointed at the defendant. I feel that the prosecution has the upper hand in any opening statement because they have all the words, and knowledge of putting those stereo-types and judgments into the juryââ¬â¢s head what sticks out the most is the defendant is already presumed guilty by the public because they even committed a crime. The law plainly states that a person is innocent until found guilty, itââ¬â¢s sad that society already has their verdict based on being a criminal period. In an opening statement the defense attorneyââ¬â¢s job would be to defend their client to the best of their ability, their main goal is to dismiss any statement that the prosecution has presented to prove their evidence. An example of a defense attorney would be solely to discredit the prosecutions opening statement. The defense attorney would state that there client didnââ¬â¢t in fact commit the crime that they have been accused of, that their client is innocent until the prosecution can prove otherwise. Also during the defense opening statement they would high lite the excellent qualities of the defendant; stating their qualities in the community, education, employment status. Most importantly they would state how they prosecution has no real evidence on the defendant and how they will dismiss the prosecutions accusations. The opening statements are the foot work for presenting the evidence in a trial; this gives the jury the opportunity to process both sides of the opening statement in conjunction with the evidence that will be presented to be able to provide a verdict of guilty or not guilty. It amazes me how the trial process starts with the first initial process of the trial initiation and proceeds to the end result or a verdict, this process reminds me of so many anonymous 12 step program. You can complete one process before the other, the first process has to be initiated and then move to the next the processes all follow each other. Research Proposal on Mobile Phones Usage Essay Research Paper on Cell Phones A mobile phone is considered to be one of the greatest and most important inventions of all times, because it enabled people communicate without wires and connected people from all continents into one global community. Mobile phones have changed the life of people considerably, because enable us to communicate any time and from any place we want. With the help of mobile phones such spheres as business, trade began to function more effectively and productively. The development mobile phones made the world busier, because the streets are full of people talking over the telephone and hurrying somewhere. With the growth of purposes where mobile phones are used for, the technology and abilities of the devices have improved too. Modern cell phones possess the functions of powerful computers and with the run of time their abilities will become even higher. Mobile phones have a range of advantages and disadvantages. They are useful, when we have to deliver urgent important information to somebody; it is useful for parents to control their children. On the other hand, mobile phones have turned into toys and people mostly play than communicate, or communicate without important purpose. Mobile phones have become the part of our life and we can not imagine our lives without them. No wonder, students who are studying at colleges and universities are offered to write research papers on the topic. A good research proposal should be informative and present brief analysis of the problem. For example, the problem of cell phones at school is very stressing and one should present its cause and effect. Children and teenagers pay more attention to their phones but not to studying and it is the main problem. Maria Reynolds and the First U.S. Political Sex Scandal
Maria Reynolds and the First U.S. Political Sex Scandal Maria Reynolds is best known for her role in the United States first political sex scandal. As the mistress of Alexander Hamilton, Maria was the subject of much gossip and speculation, and she ultimately found herself embroiled in a blackmail scheme. Fast Facts: Maria Reynolds Known For: Mistress of Alexander Hamilton, an affair that led to the publication of the Reynolds Pamphlet and the United States first sex scandalBorn: March 30, 1768 in New York, New YorkParents: Richard Lewis, Susanna Van Der BurghSpouse(s): James Reynolds, Jacob Clingman, Dr. Mathew (first name unknown)Died: March 25, 1828 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Early Life Maria was born in New York City to middle-class parents. Not much is known about her early life. Her father, Richard Lewis, was a merchant and itinerant laborer, and her mother Susanna Van Der Burgh had been married once before. (Of note, Susannaââ¬â¢s sixth great-grandson would become President George W. Bush.) Although Maria wasnââ¬â¢t formally educated,à her letters to Hamilton show that she was marginally literate. In 1783, when Maria was fifteen, her parents consented to her marriage to James Reynolds, several years her senior, and two years later she gave birth to their daughter, Susan. The couple moved from New York to Philadelphia at some point between 1785 and 1791. James had served during the Revolutionary War as a commissary agent, alongside his father, David. In addition, he had a pattern of filing claims with the government for damages and losses accrued during the war. In one letter to George Washington, dated 1789, James Reynolds asked for a land grant. The Hamilton Affair During the summer of 1791, Maria, then twenty-three years old, approached Hamilton in Philadelphia. She asked for help, saying James had abused and then abandoned her for another woman. She begged Hamilton, who was thirty-four and married, for financial assistance so that she could return to New York with her daughter. Hamilton agreed to deliver money to her, and promised to stop by Mariaââ¬â¢s boarding house to drop it off. Once Hamilton arrived at Mariaââ¬â¢s Philadelphia lodgings, she led him to her bedroom, and the affair began. The affair continued for the summer and fall of that year, while Hamiltonââ¬â¢s wife and son were visiting family in upstate New York. At some point, Maria informed Hamilton that James sought a reconciliation, to which she had agreed, although she had no intention of ending the affair. She then arranged for Hamilton to meet James, who wanted a position in the Treasury Department. Hamilton refused, and indicated that he no longer wanted to be involved with Maria, at which point she wrote again, saying her husband had found out about their relationship. Soon, Reynolds himself was sending angry letters to Hamilton, demanding money. In December 1791, Hamilton paid Reynolds $1,000 - a staggering sum at that time - and ended the affair with Maria. However, a month later, Reynolds surfaced again, and this time invited Hamilton to renew his romantic attentions towards Maria; she also encouraged Hamiltonââ¬â¢s visits. Each time, Hamilton sent Reynolds money. This continued until June 1792, when Reynolds was arrested and charged with forgery and fraudulently purchasing pensions from Revolutionary War veterans. From jail, Reynolds continued to write Hamilton, who refused to send the couple any further payments. The Scandal Once Maria and James Reynolds realized there was to be no further income from Hamilton, it wasnââ¬â¢t long before whispers of scandal got back to Congress. Reynolds hinted at public misconduct, promising to testify against Hamilton, but instead vanished after being released from jail. By then, though, the damage was done, and the truth about the affair with Maria was the talk of the town. Worried that accusations of financial misdeeds could destroy his political hopes, Hamilton decided to come clean about the affair. In 1797, he wrote what would become known as the Reynolds Pamphlet, in which he detailed the relationship with Maria and the blackmail by her husband. He maintained that his wrongdoing was adultery, not financial malfeasance: ââ¬Å"My real crime is an amorous connection with his wife, for a considerable time with his privity and connivance, if not originally brought on by a combination between the husband and wife with the design to extort money from me.â⬠Once the pamphlet was released, Maria became a social pariah. She had divorced Reynolds in absentia in 1793, and remarried; her second husband was a man named Jacob Clingman, who was implicated along with Reynolds in the pension speculation scheme. To escape further public humiliation, Maria and Clingman left for England in late 1797. Later Years There are no details about Mariaââ¬â¢s life in England, but when she returned to the United States years later, it was without Clingman. It is unknown whether he died, she divorced him, or she simply left. Regardless, she was using the name Maria Clement for a time, and worked as a housekeeper to a physician named Dr. Mathew, whom she later married. Her daughter Susan came to live with them, and enjoyed some degree of social status with her motherââ¬â¢s new marriage. In her later years, Maria cultivated respectability and found solace in religion. She died in 1828. ACT MathWord ProblemsThe Ultimate Guide
ACT MathWord ProblemsThe Ultimate Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Though the majority of ACT math problemsuse diagrams or simply ask you to solve given mathematical equations, you will also see approximately 15-18 word problems on any given ACT (between 25% and 30% of the total math section). This means that knowing how best to deal with word problems will help you significantly when taking the test. Though there are many different types of ACT word problems, most of them are not nearly as difficult or cumbersome as they may appear. This post will be your complete guide to ACT word problems:how to translate your word problems into equations and diagrams, the different types of word problems youââ¬â¢ll see on the test, and how best to go about solving your word problems for test day. What Are Word Problems? A word problem is any problem that is based mostly or entirely on written description and does not provide you with an equation, diagram, or graph. You must use your reading skills to translate the words of the question into a workable math problem and then solve for your information. Word problems will show up on the test for a variety of reasons. Most of the time, these types of questions act to test your reading and visualization skills, as well act as a medium to deliver questions that would otherwise be untestable. For instance, if you must determine the number of sides of an unknown polygon based on given information, a diagram would certainly give the game away! Translating Word Problems Into Equations or Drawings In order to translate your word problems into actionable math equations that you can solve, youââ¬â¢ll need to know and utilize some key math terms. Whenever you see these words, you can translate them into the proper action. For instance, the word ââ¬Å"productâ⬠means ââ¬Å"the value of two or more values that have been multiplied together,â⬠so if you need to find ââ¬Å"the product of a and b,â⬠youââ¬â¢ll need to set up your equation with $a * b$. Key Terms Mathematical Action Sum, increased by, added to, total of + Difference, decreased by, subtracted from - Product, times * or x Divided by / or à · Equals, is, are, equivalent, same = Is less than Is greater than Is less than or equal to âⰠ¤ Is greater than or equal to âⰠ¥ Let's take a look at this in action with an example problem: We have two different cable companies that each have different rates for installation and different monthly fees. We are asked to find out how many months it will take for the cost for each company to be the "same," which means we must set the two rates equal. Uptown Cable charges120 dollars for installation plus 25 dollars a month. We do not know how many months we're working with, so we will have: $120 + 25x$ Downtown Cable charges 60 dollars for installation and 35 dollars per month. Again, we don't know how many months we're working with, but we know they will be the same, so we will have: $60 + 35x$ And, again, because we are finding the amount of months when the cost is the "same," we must set our rates equal. $120 + 25x = 60 + 35x$ From here, we can solve for $x$, since it is a single variable equation. [Note: the final answer is G, 6 months] Learning the language of ACT word problems will help you to unravel much of the mystery of these types of questions. Typical ACT Word Problems ACT word problems can be grouped into two major categories: word problems where you must simply set up an equation and word problems in which you must solve for a specific piece of information. Word Problem Type 1: Setting Up an Equation This is the less common type of word problem on the test, but youââ¬â¢ll generally see it at least once or twice. You'll also usually see this type of word problem first. For this type of question, you must use the given information toset up the equation, even though you donââ¬â¢t need to solve for the missing variable. Almost always, youââ¬â¢ll see this type of question in the first ten questions on the test, meaning that the ACT test-makers consider them fairly ââ¬Å"easy.â⬠This is due to the fact that you only have to provide the set-up and not the execution. We consider a ââ¬Å"profitâ⬠to be any money that is gained, so we must always subtract our costs from our earnings. We know that Jones had to invest 10 million starting capital, so he is only making a profit if he has earned more than 10 million dollars. This means we can eliminate answer choices C, D, and E, as they do not account for this 10 million. Now each boat costs Jones 7,000 dollars to make and he sells them for 20,000. This means that he earns a profit of: $20,000 - 7,000$ $13,000$ per boat. If $x$ represents our number of boats, then our final equation will be: $13,000x - 10,000,000$ Our final answer is A, $13,000x - 10,000,000$ Word Problem Type 2:Solving for Your Information Other than the few set-up word questions youââ¬â¢ll see, the rest of your ACT word problem questions will fall into this category. For these questions, you must both set up your equation and solve for a specific piece of information. Most (though not all) word problem questions of this type will be scenarios or stories covering all sorts of ACT math topics, including averages, single variable equations, and probabilities, among others. You almost always must have a solid understanding of the math topic in question in order to solve the word problem on the topic. This question is a rare example of a time in which not every piece of given information is needed to solve the problem. For most ACT word questions, all your given information will come into play at some point, but this is not the case here (though you can use all of your information, should you so choose). For example, we are told that 25% of a given set of jelly beans are red. 25% translates to $1/4$ because 25% is the same as $25/100$ (or $1/4$). If we are being asked to find how many jelly beans are NOT red, then we know it would be $3/4$ because 100% is the same as 1, and 1 - $1/4$ = $3/4$. So we didnââ¬â¢t need to know that there were 400 jellybeans to know that our final answer is H, $3/4$. Alternatively, we could use all of our given information and find 25% of 400 in order to find the remaining jelly beans. $400 * {1/4}$ or $400/4$ $100$ If 100 jellybeans are red, then 400 - 100 = 300 jelly beans are NOT red. This means that the not-red jelly beans make up, $300/400$ $3/4$ of the total number of jelly beans. Again, our final answer is H, $3/4$ You might also be given a geometry problem as a word problem, which may or may not be set up with a scenario as well. Geometry questions will be presented as word problems typically because the test-makers felt the problem would be too easy to solve had you been given a diagram. The test-makers didnââ¬â¢t give us a diagram, so let's makeourselves one and fill it in with what we know so far. We know from our studies of parallelogramsthat opposite side pairs will be equal, so we know that the opposite side of our given will also be 12. Now we can use this information to subtract from our total perimeter. $72 - 12 - 12$ $48$ Again, opposite sides will be equal and we know that the sum of the two remaining sides will be 48. This means that each remaining side will be: $48/2$ $24$ Now we have four sides in the pairings of 12 and 24. Our final answer is C, 12, 12, 24, 24. Now, how do we put our knowledge to its best effect? Let's take a look. ACT Math Strategies for Your Word Problems Though youââ¬â¢ll see word problems on amyriad of different types of ACT math topics, there are still a few techniques you can apply to solve your word problems as a whole. #1: Draw It Out Whether your problem is a geometry problem or an algebra problem, sometimes making a quick sketch of the scene can help you understand what, exactly, you're working with. For instance, let's look at how a picture can help you solve a ratio/division problem: Let's start by first drawing our sandwich and Jerome's portion of it. Now let's divvy off Kevin's portion and, by the remainder, Seth's as well. By seeing the problem visually, we can see that the ratio of Jerome's share, to Kevin's, to Seth'swill go in descending order of size. This let's us eliminate answer choices A, B, and C, and leaves us with answer choices D and E. Just by drawing it out and using process of elimination, and without knowing anything else about ratios, we have a 50-50 shot of guessing the right answer. And, again, without knowing anything else about fractions or ratios, we can make an educated guess between the two options. Since Jerome's share doesn't look twice as large as Kevin's, our answer is probably not E. This leaves us with our final answer D, 3:2:1. [Note: for a breakdown on how to solve this problem using fractions and ratios instead of using a diagram and educated guessing, check out our guide to ACT fractions and ratios.] As for geometry problems, remember- youââ¬â¢re often given a word problem as a word problem because it would be too simple to solve had you had a diagram to work with from the get-go. So take back the advantage and draw the picture yourself. Even a quick and dirty sketch can help you visualize the problem much easier than you can in your head and help keep all your information clear. #2:Memorize ImportantTerms If youââ¬â¢re not used to translating English words into mathematical equations, then ACT word problems cansound like so much nonsense and leave you floundering to set up the proper equation. Look to the chart and learn how to translate your keywords into their math equivalents. Doing sowill help you to understand exactly what the problem is asking you to find. There are free ACT math questions available online, so memorize your terms and then practice on real ACT word problems to make sure youââ¬â¢ve got your definitions down and can apply them to real problems. #3: Underline and Write Out theKey Information The key to solving a word problem is bringing together all the relevant pieces of given information and putting them in the right places. Make sure you write out all your givens on the diagram youââ¬â¢ve drawn (if the problem calls for a diagram) and that all your moving pieces are in order. One of the best ways to keep all your pieces straight is to underline them in the problem and then write them out yourself before you set up your equation, so take a moment to perform this step. #4: Pay Close Attention to ExactlyWhat Is Being Asked of You Little is more frustrating than solving for the wrong variable or writing in your given values in the wrong places. And yet this is entirely too easy to do when working with word problems. Make sure you pay strict attention to exactly what youââ¬â¢re meant to be solving for and exactly what pieces of information go where. Are you looking for the area or the perimeter? The value of $x$ or $x + y$? Better to make sure before you start what youââ¬â¢re supposed to find than realize two minutes down the line that you have to solve the problem all over again. #5: Brush Up on Any Specific Math Topic in Which You Feel Weak You are likely to see both diagram/equation problems and word problems for any given ACT math topic on the test. Many of the topics can swing either way, which is why there are so many different types of word problems and why youââ¬â¢ll need to know the ins and outs of any particular math topic in order to solve its corresponding word problem. For example, if you donââ¬â¢t know how to properly set up a system of equations problem, you will have a difficult time of it when presented with a word problem on the topic. So understand that solving a word problem is a two-step process: it requires you to both understand how word problems themselves work and to understand the math topic in question. If you have any areas of mathematical weakness, now is a good time to brush up on them, or else the word problem might be trickier than you were expecting. All set? Time to shine! Test Your Knowledge Now to put your word problem know-how to the test with real ACT mathproblems. 1) 2) 3) 4) Answers: K, C, A, E Answer Explanations: 1) First, let us make a sketch of what we have, just so we can keep our measurements straight. We know we have two triangles, one smaller than the other, and the hypotenuse of the smaller triangle is 5. Now our triangles are in a ratio of 2:5, so if the hypotenuse of the smaller triangle is 5, we can find the hypotenuse of the larger triangle by setting them up in a proportion. $2/5 = 5/x$ $2x = 25$ $x = 12.5$ Our final answer is K, 12.5. 2) Because we are dealing with a hypothetical number that is increasing and decreasing based on percentage, we can solve this problem in one of two waysby using algebra or by plugging in our own numbers. Solving Method 1: Algebra If we assign our hypothetical number as $x$, we can say that $x$ is increased by 25% by saying: $x + 0.25x$ Which gives us: $1.25x$ Now, we can decrease this value by 20% by saying: $1.25x - (1.25x * 0.2)$ $1.25x - 0.25x$ This leaves us with: $1x$ or 100% of our original number. Our final answer is C, 100%. Solving Method 2:Plugging in Numbers Alternatively, we can use the same basic process, but make it a little simpler by using numbers instead of variables. Let's say our original number is 100. (Why 100? Why not! Our number can literally be anything and 100 is an easy number to work with.) So if we need to increase 100 by 25%, we first need to find 25% of 100 and then add that to 100. $100 + (0.25)100$ $100 + 25$ $125$ Now we need to decrease this value by 20%, so we would say: $125 - (0.2)125$ $125 - 25$ $100$ We are left with the same number we started with, which means we are left with 100% of the number we started with. Again, our final answer is C, 100%. 3) Let's first begin by drawing a picture of our scene. We know that one vertex of the square is at (3, 0), so we can mark it on a coordinate plane. Now, we are told that each side of the square is 3 cm long. To make life simple, we can start by marking all the possible vertexes attached to our known vertex at (3, 0) straight up, down, and side to side. If no answers match, we can then look to vertexes at different angles. Our possible vertexes are: (0, 0), (6, 0), 3, 3) and (3, -3) One of our possible vertexes is at (6, 0 and this matches one of our answer choices, so we can stop here. Our final answer is A, (6, 0). 4) We are told that Ms. Lopez throws out the lowest test score and then averages the remaining scores. Because Victor's scores are already in ascending order, we can throw out the first score of 62. Now to find the average of the remaining 4 scores, let us add them together and then divide by the number of scores. $(78 + 83 + 84 + 93)/4$ $338/4$ $84.5$ Our final answer is E, 84.5. A round of applause to your success!Picture: John Morris/Flickr The Take-Aways Word problems comprise a significant portion of the ACT, so itââ¬â¢s a good idea to understand how they work and how to translate the words into a proper equation. But remember that translating your word problems is still only half the battle. You must also supplement this knowledge of how to solve word problems with a solid understanding of the math topic in question. For example, it wonââ¬â¢t do a lot of good if you can translate a probability word problem if you donââ¬â¢t understand exactly how probabilities work. So be sure to not only learn how to approach your word problems, but also hone your focus on any math topicsyou feel you need to improve upon. What is origin of christianity - Case Study Example In order to do that, it is important to know what Christianity is. And in order to discover the essence of Christianity, one must first understand its history. This study hopes to discover the origins of Christianity. Its higher goal is to show Christians today what they have in common. Through a review of the history of Christianity, people from various religious denominations to discover the legacy of Christ and understand that this image of Christ is the representation of what we are striving for as species. This study will look at published articles and books detailing the history of Christianity ââ¬â from its founding to its breakup roughly 500 years ago. Graduate Reflection Paper 3(a) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Graduate Reflection Paper 3(a) - Essay Example Many employees will come from the neighborhood but many managers will be brought into the community from other areas. When so many people come together, they bring with them their attitudes, their insecurities and often their personal problems. Sometimes the manager helps an employee get to a counselor or find other resources in the community that they may need to continue in the organization. Managers must be cognizant of the fact that internally, they are the ones who set the climate and create a positive or negative experience for their employees. The organizations have changed drastically over the last thirty or forty years. As an example, organizations now deal with a wider diversity of employees that can include different ethnicities, religions and disabilities. Gays, lesbians and transgendered employees have specific needs, some of which have become controversial and each all employees bring their skills and abilities to the workplace. Effective leaders must understand how to work with all these team members and help them work with each other. This action creates one of the many functions of management. There are several models that are important to organizational change. The conventional model suggests that an individuals perception is based on the knowledge and information they receive (Rouse, 1998). This can be one of the reasons why employee behavior can be so different and why managers must be sure to understand who their people are and how to make them into a team. Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs is another model for leadership. Most people are familiar with the hierarchy and managers must understand that their employees may be at any level of need at any given time. The manager must be aware of resources in the organization and outside the organization that can assist employees. They must also build a relationship with employees that

It goes back in time to show the origins of the conflict between them and also to show Grendelââ¬â¢s personal change within. The novel provides the view of the ââ¬Å"monsterâ⬠that everyone in Beowulf feared and hated. It showcases how certain events and experiences sha ped Grendel, not only as a monster, but as a human and observer. The story focuses on Grendelââ¬â¢s different philosophies of thought. He observes the local humans, the Scyldingsââ¬â¢ development as a civilization and as individuals. His first encounters with the outside world are both bewildering and melancholy. His encounter with a bull and humans leads to his search for personal meaning and his desire to torment the humans. All these things show that Grendel is not a monster, but a non-human who possesses human-like qualities, such as emotion and thoughts. Beowulf portrays Grendel as a savage beast, who is solely driven by his nonhuman instincts to torture humans. It gives the reader the feeling that he does not possess the same thought processes as humans do; therefore, he is characterized as a monster. However, in this novel, Grendelââ¬â¢s point of view and thoughts are more developed and deeper than how he is portrayed in Beowulf. The readers get a glimpse of the story through his eyes and it may change their view of Grendel. He is a solitary and disoriented creature who is misunderstood by humans and all those around him. He looks for a place to belong and his quest is to know who and what he is. ââ¬Å"I had become something, as if born again. I had hung between possibilities before, between the cold truths I knew and the heart-sucking conjuring tricks of the Shaper; now that was passed: I was Grendel, Ruiner of Meadhalls, Wrecker of Kings!?But also, as never before, I was alone. â⬠Grendel states this at the end of Chapter 6 and it marks the start of his 12-year war against the humans. Itââ¬â¢s significant because itââ¬â¢s Grendelââ¬â¢s step in creating his own identity and place in the world for the first time. It not only indicates that Grendel has a role of the humansââ¬â¢ nemesis but that now, more than ever before, Grendel was alone because he has destroyed the possibility of ever befriending the humans.

The Secret Of My Success - 1710 Words
Faith Integration James Tompkins, Alisa Ewald, Phoenix Peeler Liberty University George Washington Carver was once quoted as saying: ââ¬Å"The secret of my success? It is simple. It is found in the Bible.â⬠This simple statement should encourage Christians to seek Godââ¬â¢s guidance through the Bible in all aspects of their lives. This essay examines how biblical principles can be incorporated into the financial topic of return on investment. The three sections in this paper will help the Christian and investor understand how communication influences returns, how to maximize both financial and heavenly returns, and how to view returns on material investments with an eternal mentality. Communication Influences Returns The relationship between investors and financial managers is an essential component in the investment process. Both parties must engage in a series of communication exchanges and activities in order for investing opportunities to be created and maintained over a period of time. When considering the importance of relationship building in business it is clear that firms would not exist without investors and other stakeholders that provide the financial support needed to survive. Just as Christians would not survive without the love and protection of God. That is why investors should take the time to get to know the firms they invest in. Dealing With Restroom Use During Class
How do you handle requests from students to go to the bathroom during class? Every so often you will see a news story about a teacher who did not let a child use the bathroom during class causing them to have an embarrassing accident. Restroom use during class is a sticky issue that deserves some thought so that you do not end up on the news. We have all experienced sitting in a meeting when we really have to use the restroom. People retain less information when they are focused on their need to relieve themselves. Therefore, it is important that you provide a way for students to use the restroom, whileà at the same time maintain control within your classroom. Issues With Restroom Use A couple of issues exist that cause teachers to be wary of allowingà restroom use during class. It can be very disruptive. One of the most annoying things to a teacher is trying to hold a classroom discussion and when they call on a student who has raised their hand, the only thing they do is ask if they can go to the bathroom. It can be easily abused. Every teacher has encountered a student who does not have a medical issue yet asks to go to the bathroom each and every day.Roaming the halls is not acceptable. Most schools have strict policies concerning who can be out of class. This helps the school maintain control and keeps disruption to other classes to a minimum. You dont want to be in the hot seat by allowing too many students to leave your class at once or by having your students cause a problem when they are supposed to be in your class. Ideas to Help Control Restroom Use What can you do to allow students to go to the bathroom when they really need to but at the same time maintain control? Make it a policy that only one student can go to the bathroom at a time from your class. This relieves the problem of having too many students out at once.Give students a limit to the amount of time they are allowed out. This will help cut down on students taking advantage of leaving the class. You will need to come up with a discipline plan associated with this to help with enforcement.Institute a policy that students cannot ask to go to the restroom until you are at your desk or at a minimum not addressing the entire class. This is fine but remember that if a student has a medical issue of which you have been informed then they should be allowed to leave when it is necessary. You might want to consider creating a special pass for them for this purpose.Track who is going each day if you think there is an issue. If a student is abusing the privilege talk to them about it. If this does not stop the behavior, call and talk to their parents. There may be situations where a student abuse s the privilege every day without a medical reason. In one example, when the teacher denied the student the ability to go one day, the parents called and complained causing a lot of problems for this particular teacher. A call to the parents before instituting the policy with that student could have helped because they would not be getting the story just from their child. Restroom use can quickly become an emotionally charged subject. Make sure that you spend some time creating and perfecting your own restroom use plan so that you can stay focused on teaching and not on this issue. You can refer to How to Create a Restroom Pass System for more ideas.
